Rethinking ‘Eating for Two’: Finding Real Nutrition Support for Moms

Have you ever heard someone tell a pregnant person, “You’re eating for two!”? I definitely have. Many times. So when I was pregnant, you can imagine my shock (and, let’s be honest, mild disappointment) when my OB told me I did not, in fact, need to double up on portions of ice cream. Apparently, “eating for two” doesn’t mean what I thought it did.
Like most first-time moms, I could have used a bit more guidance on prenatal nutrition. My OB gave me general recommendations, which were helpful…until I failed my one-hour gestational diabetes screening. Suddenly, I was anxious about my numbers, scouring Reddit at 2 a.m., and listening to every friend and family anecdote I could find, trying to figure out how to get things back on track.
Looking back, I wish I’d reached out to a professional who could have eased my worries and created a clear, personalized plan- instead of me trying to piece together conflicting advice.
There’s so much information out there that it’s hard to know what’s accurate or relevant to you. And sometimes your OB simply doesn’t have the time to dive deep into nutrition questions when appointments are focused on ultrasounds, labs, and everything else that comes with pregnancy care.
At Boston Birth Village, we never want you to feel alone on this journey. We’re proud to spotlight one of our community partners, Coord Health, a service offering virtual nutrition counseling with registered dietitians. As a women-owned business, they get it. They support women through all stages of life, including the delicate phases of fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum.
And the best part? They work with most major insurance companies- meaning most women pay $0 out
of pocket for care. 👏🏻
If you’re curious about how Coord Health can support you, come meet them at our fundraiser, The Climb, on October 19th! Event details can be found here.
In the meantime, you can learn more at coordhealth.com or follow them on Instagram at @coord_health.
