A Full Fridge, A Little More Breathing Room: Meet Red Fennel Kitchen

The fourth trimester asks a lot of new parents.
You’re healing, learning your baby, running on very little sleep, and trying to remember when you last ate something.
And while everyone tells you to “sleep when the baby sleeps,” no one really talks about the simple things that can feel just as impossible; making dinner, grocery shopping, remembering to eat, or having enough energy to think about what comes next.
Sometimes, support looks like someone taking one thing off your plate.
For Red Fennel Kitchen, that thing is dinner.
As a sponsor of The CLIMB Boston 2026, Red Fennel Kitchen is helping us support something we care deeply about at Boston Birth Village: making sure new parents have the support, community, and resources they deserve during the postpartum period.\
Meet Brooke of Red Fennel Kitchen
Based in Watertown, Brooke Bedell is the chef and founder behind Red Fennel Kitchen, a personal chef and catering business serving families throughout Greater Boston.
And when we say behind the business, we mean it.
Brooke is a one-woman show. She shops, plans, cooks, packages, delivers, and manages every detail herself. Her clients become more than just people she cooks for, they become people she genuinely cares about.
She has one family she began working with when their baby was just six weeks old. Now, 18 months later, she is still cooking for them.
That kind of relationship says a lot about what Red Fennel Kitchen is really about.
Postpartum Food That Actually Fits Into Postpartum Life
One of Brooke's favorite offerings is her New Mom Package, which includes two weeks of meals created specifically with those early postpartum weeks in mind.
The meals are nourishing, freezer-friendly, easy to eat, and available for delivery—so new parents can have a fridge full of food without having to worry about grocery shopping, meal planning, or having someone in their home during those very early newborn days.
Because postpartum doesn't always leave much room for cooking.
Sometimes you don't need another reminder to “eat healthy.” You just need someone to make sure there's something good waiting for you in the refrigerator.
Brooke has seen this firsthand.
“I've packed fridges for women who hadn't eaten a real meal in days because there was simply no time or energy left after taking care of a newborn.”
And her favorite moment isn't necessarily cooking, It's what happens afterward.
“Watching someone open that fridge and exhale a little, that's the whole reason I do this.”
Honestly, we get it.
No “Perfect” Postpartum Diet Here
We also love that Red Fennel Kitchen isn't built around the idea that food has to be perfect.
Brooke's philosophy is “real isn't replication.”
She doesn't believe in calling foods “clean” or “bad,” or giving people half-hearted substitutions just because they're supposed to be healthier. Instead, she creates meals around the actual person eating them.
A postpartum mom has different needs than a marathon runner. A family with picky toddlers has different needs than a busy working parent.
So the food should reflect that.
Brooke focuses on simple, recognizable ingredients while keeping things realistic. No specialty grocery store required. Just thoughtful food that tastes good and makes life a little easier.
She also keeps sustainability in mind, using reusable glass containers, composting leftovers, and supporting local whenever she can.
Because Moms Need to Be Cared For, Too
One of the things Brooke has noticed through her work is that the hardest part of those first few postpartum weeks isn't always the exhaustion.
It's the loneliness.
It's the anxiety.
It's the pressure to look like you're handling everything when you're actually running on three hours of sleep and haven't had a real meal all day.
Food can help carry someone through a hard day, but Brooke knows that sometimes a stocked refrigerator isn't enough.
Sometimes a mom needs someone to listen.
Sometimes she needs community.
Sometimes she needs professional support.
That's why supporting postpartum organizations is such an important part of Red Fennel Kitchen's mission. Brooke has supported causes including The CLIMB Postpartum Support and Postpartum Support International, helping connect the idea of nourishing the body with the importance of caring for the whole person.
Her advice to new moms is simple:
“Needing help isn't a failure.”
And we couldn't agree more.
You don't get a badge for doing the fourth trimester alone.
A Little Help Can Go a Long Way
There is something so comforting about opening your refrigerator and realizing that dinner is already taken care of.
No grocery store.
No meal planning.
No figuring out what sounds good when you're exhausted.
Just food, ready for you.
But more than that, there's a message behind it:
You deserve to be cared for, too.
That is exactly the kind of postpartum support we're proud to celebrate through The CLIMB Boston.
